Did Jesus Have to Die?

Walk with Jesus

Our Lord God is Sovereign over the entire universe. Nothing happens that he does not ordain. There are many scriptures that proclaim this. One of my favorites is Acts 4:27-28, where the Apostles and Disciples of Christ in the early church proclaimed with one voice, “27 For truly in this city there were gathered together against Your holy servant Jesus, whom You anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose predestined to occur.”

Herod, Pontius Pilate, Gentile and Jews all gathered together against Jesus. We can grasp that. The hard part is verse 28, “to do whatever Your hand and Your purpose predestined to occur.”

God predestined Jesus to die for our sins. Most people realize that the Bible teaches that Jesus died for our sins. It’s the predestination that bothers them. He also predestined most of the world to oppose Him. This opposition still exists to this day. If you doubt it, just start talking about Jesus’ being the only way to the Father in a group of people that don’t go to your church. It’s hard to swallow if you are not Bible literate. But just think for a minute… if there was another way, why did Jesus have to die?
