Hi. My name is Thomas. So is yours!

Doubting Thomas

OK Blog readers. Instead of providing you the verses to read here, I'm asking you to open the old fashioned but never out of style BIBLE, turn the pages to John 20 and read verse 1-31. (John 20:1-31)

..... I'll wait........................

I'm always encouraged by people in the bible who demonstrate the weaknesses and failures that we humans still experience today. Even those who physically experienced Jesus while he was on the earth still sufferend from our human issues. Take Thomas for example: When Jesus appreared to some of the disciples after his resurrection, John writes in such a way that they didn't have any problem beliving it was him. In verse 20 he writes "When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His sides. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord." But Thomas wasn't with them and when the other disciples told him what they had seen, he said "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, an d put my hand into His side, I will not believe". (verse 25)

I can't tell you how many times I've doubted God's word, or at least the power He has to handle ANYTHING that happens in my life. In the end, of course, He always reigns supreme and I feel silly for doubting him in the first place. These moments are less and less as I mature in Christ for sure, but I think we'll have fleeting moments of doubt until we stand in His presence. When Thomas finally saw the rising Christ eight days later, he exclaimed "My Lord and my God" (verse 29).

By the way, I know I'm not alone being like Thomas. Just yesterday you doubted God's involvement in some area of your life. Just look in the mirror and say "stop it Thomas". Pray for forgiveness and that He would give you peace in the situation to trust Him. And then? Keep turning those pages of the never out of style instruction book; the bible!
