It's a Heart Issue

“When Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the leper, a woman came to Him with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume, and she poured it on His head as He reclined at the table.” Matthew 26:6-7

Mary was identified in John 12:3 as the woman who poured the costly perfume on Jesus. The word costly doesn’t seem to explain the significance of the perfume’s value because it actually represented nearly a year’s salary. Mary also always demonstrated a heart that was sensitive to Jesus teaching. In fact it says in Luke 10:39, “…Mary, who was seated at the Lords feet, listening to His word.”

If you have ever wondered what it looks like to be a person who is a “true worshiper” (John 4:23), Mary’s actions would be clear evidence. Another way to put it is that Mary demonstrated a person of genuine worship. When she poured the perfume on Jesus, she was pouring out her heart and soul to Jesus. She basically gave Him everything. She didn’t count the cost.

So I ask myself, do I have a heart that is truly worshipping the Lord? Do I give everything to Him, or am I counting the cost rather than giving freely?

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4: 23-24

Father, please give me a heart like Mary’s, that loves and worships You fully, holding nothing back.
