Pray When You Don't Know

Pray

"So Moses brought their case before the Lord." Numbers 27: 5

In Numbers 27:1-4, Zelophehad's daughters went to Moses with a question. They wanted to know who would assume the inheritance of their father, who had recently died. The reason they asked Moses is because it was the Jewish custom that upon death of the father the land inheritance was to pass to his son, however, in this instance Zelophehad didn't have a son. So the daughters didn't think it was fair that the land would end up with someone outside the family. Scripture doesn't record what Moses was thinking, but I wonder if he didn't know what was best to do, or maybe he didn't know what to do at all. I love his first reaction; take it to the Lord for an answer.

Have you ever been in a situation in which you weren't sure what the answer was and you were too embarrassed to admit it? When we experience a circumstance like this we must demonstrate a humble heart and readily admit not knowing an answer. Then do as Moses did, he didn't presume but inquired of the Lord for help. Someone once said, "There is no praying without humility. If you wish to learn well the act of praying, then learn well the lesson of humility."

Lord, when I don't know, please help me to humble myself before You and wait for Your answer.

God's Promise: "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all you anxiety on Him because he cares for you." I Peter 5: 6-7
