Satisfied with Life

Rejoice

“And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.” I Timothy 6: 8

In Matthew 21:33-39, Jesus tells a parable about a landowner who planted a vineyard. He rented it out to vine-growers who were thought to be reliable. The vine-growers agreed to pay a percentage of the proceeds to the landowner as rent. The remaining proceeds would be theirs for all their work in cultivating the vineyard. This was really an excellent opportunity for the vine-growers to make a good living because the vineyard was high quality and they had complete trust of the owner. BUT, they were not content with just a good living. They wanted everything they could get and more.

It is amazing what discontent can breed isn’t it? Of course it breeds more discontent. Paul reminded the Corinthian Christians in I Corinth 7:20, “Let each one remain in the same calling in which he was called.”

Am I really content with where the Lord has me right now? After Abraham’s death in Genesis 25:8 it says that he “… died in a ripe old age, an old man and satisfied with life.” That, in my mind, is true contentment.

“Now godliness with contentment is great gain.” I Timothy 6:6

“A little that a righteous man is better than the riches of many wicked.” Psalm 37:16

“…be content with your wages.” Luke 3:14

Father, thank you for the abilities you give us and the ambition to do the best we can. Now please cause me to have a heart like Paul, to learn to be content in whatever it is You would have me to be.
