Seek, Pray, and Trust

Walk with Jesus

"David inquired again of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go up after them; circle around behind them and come at them in front of the balsam trees. It shall be when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the army of the Philistines.” 1 Chronicles 14:14-15

In verses, 8 thru 12, the Philistines were after David because they didn’t want him to be king. When David heard they were coming, he sought God and was given direction to “go up against the Philistines”. David followed what he was told and went straight after them and the Lord gave them into David’s hand. In vs 14 once again, here comes the Philistines! David was very wise. He knew that even though he had just experienced a victory over the Philistines, he needed to wait on the Lord and seek Him again. What’s interesting is that God didn’t give him the same guidance. He gave him a completely different “plan of attack”. Because David by faith accepted God’s directions and obeyed, he once again had victory. And not only that, according to vs 17, his fame went out into all the lands.

Isn’t that how it goes sometimes, when we think we have things figured out, God sometimes changes “the plan.” It’s when I start doing what I believe to be the most logical answer for my circumstance and not pray before and check with God that I better watch out! Many times we don’t even pray….we just go! How often God says in the Bible that the people don’t listen and obey? Are you seeking, praying, and trusting in His plan or are you trusting in what sounds logical to man?

Oh Lord God, I pray that I would follow David’s example and not do what I think I should do. But, rather cause me to always, each time, go to You and then do what You are showing me to do.
