Word of the Day: 1 Peter 3:3-4

Word of the Day

"Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God." 1 Peter 3:3-4

A Godly Woman's Heart….

In Peter's time as in our time, there was and is so much emphasis placed on how we look. There is nothing at all wrong with looking nice, but as Peter says in chapter 3, verse 3 "do not let your adornment be merely outward…." Peter is not saying that a woman cannot wear jewelry, fix her hair or anything like that. The question is what is the most important; spending time to look good on the outside or spending time to look good on the inside? The outside beauty can be something you are not, but the inside beauty is something you are. Peter says to have a heart which is "incorruptible," meaning that it never gets worse with age, but rather it actually gets better. This is so much better than the things which are used to adorn the outside. Peter then says to have a gentle and quiet spirit. This we would never hear from the world! According to verse 4, this "is very precious in the sight of God".

On this Valentine's Day, as you see pictures of hearts displayed everywhere, may you look at your heart to see what the real you looks like. Oh to have a heart that is precious in the sight of God!
