Word of the Day: 1 Peter 4:10

Word of the Day

"As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." 1 Peter 4:10

As Peter begins to wind down his letter to the Christians, who were scattered throughout the area (1:1), he mentions a very simple phrase. It's one of those phrases which is very easy to read and very easy to understand, but sometimes hard to practice. Peter reminds the Christians to use their spiritual gifts by "serving one another." He is not referring to only the Christian with the gift of serving, but to each of us.

Years ago Charles Swindoll wrote in his book entitled, Improve Your Serve:

"Since Jesus Christ, the Son of God, took upon Himself the role of a servant, so must we. The One who could have been or done anything, consciously and voluntarily, chose to be one who served, one who gave. So then, if we are to become increasingly more like Christ (that is still our goal, isn't it) then we, too, are to give and to serve."

Peter's phrase "serving one another" is not a suggestion, he is telling us to do it. Oh how I love Jesus and want to be like Him.

Lord help us to have a servant's heart. Give us the strength and desire to serve those around us; our wives, our husbands, parents, friends, co-workers, or co-laborers in the Body. The list can go on and on. O Lord to that end may You be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. (I Peter 4: 11B)

"Through love serve one another." Galatians 5:13
