Word of the Day: Acts 13:52

Word of the Day

"And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit."
Acts 13:52

Many of us have experienced rejection of one kind or another. Whether it's being rejected by a fellow employee, a friend, a relative or even a spouse it can be very difficult to handle. Sometimes it can even cause bitterness to develop in our heart.

In Acts chapter 13, Paul and Barnabas experienced one of those difficult rejections by some in Antioch. They had the blessing of being able to witness to many Gentiles. They were able to speak the word of God boldly. In verse 48 it says "the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the Word of the Lord, and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed." That would have given Paul and Barnabas, much to have joy about! However, it wasn't long before the Jews "instigated a persecution against Paul and Barnabas." This was a big time rejection as the people drove them out of their area. In my way thinking this should have caused them to be a little discouraged. It says just the opposite happened. Circumstances or rejection did not keep them distracted from the mission but rather they were "continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit." Great lesson for me! Paul and Barnabas were great examples! May I always look to God and not let circumstances rob me of joy.

"But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You." Psalm 5:11
