Word of the Day

Reading: Ezekiel 14

'Idols in the Closet'

Then some elders of Israel came to me and sat down before me. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, "Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts and have put right before their faces the stumbling block of their iniquity. Should I be consulted by them at all? Ezekiel 14:1-3

A continual examination of my heart is forever needed and always welcome. In this process I have come to learn one important thing. The source of most of our sin and problems comes from the secret places of our heart. This is where our idols are stored and some of us have built big walk-in closets for all of them. King David used safeguards in his life to protect him from the threat of these idols. I continually practice David's strategy in my own life. It is in the form of a prayer from Psalms;

"Examine me, O Lord, and try me; test my mind and my heart. For Your loving-kindness is before my eyes, and I have walked in Your truth. I do not sit with deceitful men, nor will I go with pretenders." Ps 26:2-4

O Lord, keep the closet of my heart clean from idols which can
so easily become a stumbling block to me and others.
