Word of the Day: John 20:21

Word of the Day

"Jesus answered, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me."
John 20:21

Jesus has appeared to the disciples and just prophesied Peter's martyrdom. For whatever reason, Peter asked Jesus about John and what the future held for him. Is it that Peter just wanted to know if John's life would end similar to his? Or was it concern because they were such close friends? Either way clearly Peter was distracted from the mission. We can't really fault him because isn't that what our response could have been too? We all are in various kinds of circumstances, whether it be hopeful and encouraging, or very difficult, discouraging or impossible. Wherever the Lord has us currently, may we not be distracted from the mission by looking at others and wishing we could be in their circumstance. May our heart desire to do what Jesus said to Peter at the end of verse 22, "You follow Me!"

Lord, help me to be willing to follow you no matter what the circumstance. Give me an all-consuming passion for Your mission.
