Word of the Day

"What wings are to a bird, and sails to a ship, so is prayer to the soul. " Corrie Ten Boom

"...when we love God, we naturally run to Him-frequently and zealously. Jesus didn't command that we have a regular time with Him each day. Rather, He tells us to 'love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' He called this the 'first and greatest commandment' (Matt. 22:37-38). The results are intimate prayer and study of His Word. Our motivation changes from guilt to love." Francis Chan

Prayer cannot truly be taught by principles and seminars and symposiums. It has to be born out of a whole environment of felt need. If I say, 'I ought to pray,' I will soon run out of motivation and quit; the flesh is too strong. I have to be driven to pray." Jim Cymbala

"Do you pray to get from God or get God? Do you pray to move God or for God to move you? Do you pray to get out of pain or through it? Here's what I don't want you to get; we HAVE to pray. Here's what I want you to get; we GET to pray." Mark Driscoll

"Prayer is the spontaneous response of the believing heart to God. Those truly transformed by Jesus Christ find themselves lost in wonder and joy of communion with Him. Prayer is as natural for the Christian as breathing". John F. MacArthur Jr.

"One of the great uses of Twitter and Face book will be to prove at the Last Day that prayerlessness was not from lack of time." John Piper

The next few blogs I would like to share about prayer. It was brought to my attention a website that has quotes that cover lots of different subjects. Some of the ones for prayer were just too good not to share. In fact, I was really convicted by some of them. Others caused me to desire that closer more intimate walk with God. Prayer is such an important part of our relationship with God, but certainly it's not my intention to guilt us into praying, rather my goal is to encourage us into praying. For today could you mediate on the following verses? Of course these verses don't even scratch the surface as to what the Bible says about prayer, but think on them and the amazing privilege we have to talk with God.

Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice, And be gracious to me and answer me. When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, O LORD, I shall seek." Psalm 27:7, 8

In the day of my trouble I shall call upon You, For You will answer me. Psalm 86:7

Seek the LORD while He may be found; Call upon Him while He is near. Isaiah 55:6

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7

"For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst." Matthew 18:20

…..pray without ceasing; 1 Thess 5:17

Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

Father, please cause us to become people of prayer.
